The Zoo - License Manager

You can easily share your Rhinoceros software license with any computer that can connect to your network. One at a time, that is.

Simply install the free application The Zoo and check your license in and out on any computer. Very handy if you need to work on a latop as well as a desktop computer and often disconnect your laptop. The zoo then lets you take your Rhino license with you.

Free - The Zoo is a free download for Rhino 4 and Rhino 5.0.
No extra costs - Special versions of Rhino, Flamingo, Penguin, or Bongo are not needed.
No special hardware is needed - The Zoo will run on any system in the same network workgroup.
Simple setup - Install the Zoo on any system in the workgroup and type the license keys into the Zoo instead of the individual systems. A mixture of workgroup nodes and standalone licenses on the same workgroup is supported.
Check out - License keys can be checked out so laptop users can disconnect from the network. The key can be checked in again when the laptop is reconnected to the network.
Robust - Workgroup nodes will keep working even if the network connection or server is down, but workgroup nodes cannot start up without access to the Zoo.

1. Download the Zoo free of charge for Rhino 4 and Rhino 5.0.
2. Install the Zoo on any computer in your network workgroup.
3. Install Rhino, Flamingo, Penguin, and Bongo on any or all of the computers in your network as workgroup nodes.

Adding licenses:

From the Zoo Edit menu, select Add and type the CD-Keys. License key numbers (CD-Keys) are located inside the back cover of the application User's Guide or in the front of the CD case. (Tip: Put all your CD keys into a text file with one on each line. Use File>Import to import them into the Zoo.) Or, check in existing stand-alone licenses from Rhino's Tools menu, select License Manager->Check-in license.

  • Workgroup solution only - The Zoo and all computers running the nodes must be in the same network workgroup behind the same network router. License requests do not pass through routers.
  • Firewall open - If the computer running a node or the Zoo is using a firewall, be sure that UDP port 138 is open. It is likely to already be open, since Windows uses it for NetBEUI over TCP/IP.
  • Rhino 2.0 or 3.0 Educational Lab License - The Zoo does not work with Rhino 2.0 or 3.0 educational lab license.
  • Flamingo 1.1, Bongo 1.0, and Penguin 1.0 Educational Lab Licenses do not work.
  • Rhino 2.0 or 3.0 on Asia Windows - The Zoo does not work with Rhino 2.0 or 3.0 on Asian operating systems.
Not a service - The Zoo is not a Windows service. If you reboot the system with the Zoo, you must log in to the computer to start the Zoo.
